Privacy Policy

Be Write is a writing tracker for authors. We built it around a simple idea: your writing is yours. This page explains exactly what data the app touches and what leaves your device.

What stays on your device

Your projects, writing sessions, word counts, notes, ideas, milestones, settings, and any photos you attach to share cards are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted anywhere by default.

Anonymous account

On first launch the app creates an anonymous account (a random identifier) with Firebase, Google's app platform. It contains no personal information — it exists so that cloud backup can work if you later choose to enable it.

If you sign in with Google

Signing in links your anonymous account to your Google account. We receive your email address and use it for exactly two things: showing you which account you're signed into, and making your data and future purchases portable across devices. We do not email you.

If you enable cloud backup

• Your data is encrypted on your device with a password only you know, then uploaded to Firebase (Google Cloud, EU region).
• We store only the encrypted archive. Neither we nor Google can read its contents — without your password it is random bytes.
• We never store or transmit your encryption password. If you forget it, the backup cannot be recovered — by anyone.
• You can delete the cloud archive at any time (Settings → Delete all data → “Also delete the cloud backup”).

What we don't do

• No analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
• No ads, no ad identifiers.
• No selling or sharing of data with third parties.
• No reading your writing — technically impossible for backups, and local data never reaches us.

Permissions the app asks for

• Notifications — only if you enable writing reminders or streak warnings. Scheduled on-device.
• Photos — only when you attach a photo to a share card. The photo stays on your device.

Website analytics

This website (getbewrite.com) uses GoatCounter — an open-source, privacy-friendly counter. It sets no cookies, does no fingerprinting and stores no personal data; it counts page views and anonymous events (like "the calculator was used"). The app itself contains no analytics at all.

Data deletion

Settings → Delete all data removes everything from your device, and optionally the cloud archive. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. To fully remove a linked account, email us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Material changes will be announced in the app.
